I work with adolescent in-patients at a psychiatric facility. I have often incorporate yoga as a therapeutic part of our program. I never force it on my clients, as they need to feel it is their decision to practice. i have noticed yoga has a profound and positive impact on my children who have been victims of sexual assault. It seems to help them regain control/ownership of their bodies. Ty are given an oppportunity to reclaim part of what was taken from them. In general, yoga seems to help my clients to balance their emotions and regain a sense of power and control and build self-confidence. These are elements many of my patients seem to be lacking.
Yoga is great for helping our youth to balance mind, emotions and body. However, it is also essential that adults be able and willing to provide answers to questions adolescents have about their sexuality in an open, non-biased and non-judgemental manner. This guidence not only helps our adolescents to develop a healthy sexual identity,it literally helps protect them from the sexually-corrupt influences today's youth are bombarded with.
Thank you for addressing this important issue and showing yet another way that yoga can be utilized to improve life and living!
Sincerely,
Anna

Thank you so much for this information. I am continually reminded of the yoga sutras statement "yoga is not for sale" and I appreciate your generosity in sharing so much of your research and knowledge with us. I am certain rewards will flow to you because of these gifts you give so freely. Thank you Rita. Thank you Paul.

I have been faithfully practicing a home based yoga program for nearly 7 years. I spice it up with workshops and classes as time and money allow. The gifts I receive on a regular basis instill in me, I must be doing something right. As my practice has evolved I have been inundated with the thoughts that I have words to offer children of specifically the adolecent ages that can provide them comfort in knowing they possess all the answers within them, despite whatever their physical surroundings tell them. This article brings clarification to the science behind the influences that affect their growth process. Articles such as this one validate and re-inforce to me that my internal calling is an important path to develope since the child within all of us is what actually needs to be awakened.
Namaste to the teachings which find me in all the weirdest of places.

Hi,
Yoga is beneficial for the health in ways that modern science is just beginning to understand. Even though it has beenapplied with therapeutic intention for thousand of years, Yoga Therapy is only just now emerging as a discipline initself.
More health care practitioners are starting to include yogic techniques in their approach to healing -- andmore yoga teachers give a therapeutic intention to their teaching. People who have never tried yoga before are startingto consider including Yoga in their treatment plan.
As science begins to document the importance of understanding the interrelation of all existing things, it looks to Yogawith an intrigued eye, for Yoga speaks Unity in every word. As yoga techniques are researched and new data is gathered,it becomes easier for science and the medical establishment to understand and accept the benefits of Yoga Therapy.Yet there is still not one consensual definition of the discipline.
In order to arrive to an adequate definition and tocome up with proper standards for Yoga Therapy, it is crucial at this early stage to properly address some delicateprofessional and ethical issues. At the same time it is important to educatethegeneralpublic about Yoga Therapy'sbenefits and careful use.
so this article will really helpful to me..
