boost your metabolismBy Jenny Park

What can you do to boost your metabolism? Is there an optimum time of year for you to boost your metabolism? Many people set weight loss goals for themselves at the beginning of the New Year. This is one reason why so many new faces show up to Yoga classes every January. A regular practice of Yoga asanas combined with a healthy diet, restorative sleep, and a program of stress reduction, will all help anyone reach his or her weight loss goals. A healthy diet consists of a balance of lean protein, whole grains and lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. The more colorful your selection of fruits and vegetables is, the more variety of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants your diet will contain. Dietary lean protein may come from a diversity sources. If you are not a strict vegetarian, wild caught fish, such as salmon and mackerel, have a high level of Omega 3 fatty acids that help to protect the health of your heart and brain. Omega 3 fatty acids are also found in flax seeds, flax seed oil, hemp products and eggs. A sufficient amount of Omega 3 fatty acids helps the body function well and the metabolism to work at optimal levels.

In order to support your weight loss goals, there are additional dietary recommendations for revving up your metabolism and energy level. Ayurveda is the ancient Indian system of healing and health. According to Ayurvedic health practitioners, it is advisable to eat your largest meal at midday and to eat a smaller, more easily digestible meal in the evening time. Ayurvedic dietary guidelines also recommend a diet for each dosha or mental/physical personality type. In addition, fresh herbs and spices complement many traditional Indian dishes. Some of the most beneficial herbs are curry, tumeric, fresh ginger and black pepper. These herbs and spices have recently been found to add vital antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and metabolism-boosting properties to many dishes. The same is true of a traditional Mediterranean diet. Herbs like fresh oregano, thyme and rosemary all help to combat pathogens in our bodies and help to keep the metabolism revved up by supporting efficient digestion.

Additional Thoughts to Boost Your Metabolism

There are also a number of other ways to support your weight loss goals by revving up your metabolism. It is recommended by many nutritionists to eat at least thirty grams of protein for breakfast in order to support a feeling of fullness and to keep your energy level consist throughout the morning. A substantial breakfast will help to keep your blood sugar level steady and to fire up your metabolism in the morning. Some nutritionists also suggest using full fat cream in coffee or tea instead of creamers or skim milk. The reasoning behind this recommendation is that researchers have discovered that full fat cream keeps insulin levels balanced, which prevents fluctuating energy levels and cravings for salty and sweet snacks later on in the day. These are some of the ways to healthfully boost your metabolism in order to reach your weight loss goals.
