Dear Yoga Teachers, I'm seeking the answer to a question: Is the yoga alliance accredited? I ask all gurus and swamis to explain who accredited the Yoga Alliance? Please do your diligent research on investigating this matter. Please also explain the organizations who formed this idea of registration for yoga teachers? This has me worried that no one can help me explain why nobody knows if the yoga alliance accredited?
Is the yoga alliance accredited?

This is great! Thank you Ashmin for bringing up one more reason why I'm glad I never registered. The whole registration of yoga teachers concept is for followers. Nobody accredited YA as far as a deep Google search goes. I just asked one of their customer service representatives and she was tongue tied. They'll probably circle the wagons and come up with a party line response for this one when you call and I encourage everyone to ask. They trademarked "registered yoga teacher" and appointed themselves. Simple as that. Remember: Yoga Alliance isn't a government body and their shady past is in question. No government of any kind gave them any authority.

Here we go again! Think about it and be assured they accredited, registered and trademarked themselves carefully and legally under US law and with a room full of lawyers. Read their site and rest assured it was written by US lawyers too.

For those who already know the answer to this question, there is no need to comment. The politics of yoga don't concern me. I was enabled by my Guru to think for myself.

Yoga Alliance has stood with BWY as two western based (abominations) suppressors of Indian gurus and the Indian people. They are so far off the mark as to what Yoga is about. They have spit in the face of classical Indian Yoga styles and the Indian people. Yoga Alliance has been exposed as an illegitimate horde of bandits and US trade marked words. They constantly exploit Indian culture and insult the intelligence of all yogis from around the world. If they were accredited, they would wear it like a bloody badge of courage. If you call them enough they will seek out a bogus accreditor to prop up their poor reputation among yoga teachers. they are not recognized by the Indian government or any government for that matter. Now ironically they have a summer leadership conference to train their flock of mindless sheep to exploit yoga even more. i'm sorry for the anger in my words, but the actions of yoga alliance can only generate waves of contempt.

I'm a registered yoga teacher but I don't know if yoga alliance is accredited. I'm not aware of how the YA exploited Indian culture but I'm real sorry if that's the case. When I moved to the US I could barely speak English and the yoga teachers I know believed at the time you had to be registered. I paid handsomely to go through a pricey YA approved training only to find that you don't have to be registered. I wish I'd saved the thousands my family spent on my training for marketing know how. I've had no bad experiences with YA, but feel like the public is duped into believing you need to be registered to teach yoga. It's just not the case.

As a retiree and a veteran yoga teacher I'm glad to say I won't be going to the summer follower conference. That's for the newbies to revel in. I'm sorry to admit that Kushvinder is right. I'm not an Indian but the nerve of the registries is over the top. For the first time ever, our US based (self appointed) registry wants to meet the followers. They didn't answer the phone for years and no city, state, or federal government gives them any authority at all. Well - Go ahead and flock to them. By then they'll be accredited by somebody. The have a legal staff that's ready to act on their behalf. I was reading how these registries threaten each other. It's all so yogic.

Is the Yoga Alliance Accredited? This is a good question Ashmin. The short answer is No. The are a self appointed organization. No state or federal government recognizes or backs them, including the state they are located in, Virgina. If a state decides to impose regulations, you are to register with them, the YA will do nothing. If you would like you could open up your YA tomorrow and be just as accredited as they are.

Hey! What's wrong with spending time at the YA summer leadership conference? Look at it as a vacation from this long winter. Just go, have fun and enjoy. Doesn't seem like a problem to me.

Fair deal - create a myth that yogis think is real and why your company is the answer to a mythical problem. Pretty good deal - taking fees for the fear you created and give protection paper without grading the work. Better deal - playing master of puppets to a flock of sheep. Worse deal - I paid $13,586 Canadian dollars in Toronto to find out registering didn't really matter and if my real yoga certification expires my liability insurance company would love a loophole like that.

Sorry, but "I didn't know" is not a good defense in a court of law. Look, you paid for a Yoga Alliance registered program. You thought everybody had to be registered to teach yoga, but now you know different. No problem, but I'd be teaching my tail off to recover the chunk of money you invested. And you're right about loopholes. So many teachers run around with a YA card, but if anything happens in your class you better have insurance and a valid diploma. But you can't blame that on the Yoga Alliance either. YA is a business that's doing their job by creating cards that made teachers like you feel good about yourselves. A yoga teacher's negligence and lack of knowledge is not YA's fault.
One final point: YA registers - that's it! They don't accredit and they don't certify otherwise the Old Dominion (Virginia) would have shut them down when they left all the small studios in VA out to dry and said it's great for yoga to have so many studios folding up because Virginia became a tax hungry predator fueled by the idea that taxing the small studios to death in a bad economy would shake the coins out of us. Well the prez of YA said we were multi-billion dollar industry. The VA state government thought they could get some of that loot. Guess what? The Prez of YA was blowing smoke and the Old Dominion closed just about everybody out of business. Well done YA, but that's not their fault either. Yogaville had the last laugh because they were the only ashram big enough to easily pay the taxes. And YA stopped answering the phone for years, But now they're back to be your best friend and teach YOU how to be a leader.

Hope you're feeling better today, Jatwilla. I never joined so YA didn't turn me in to the state.

It's just that so many people are so misinformed. Call your state government and they'll tell you the STATE is in charge of everything - not a self made registry that most of the states have never heard of. YA isn't the government and never will be.

If feel your jealousy! Not being fair here - are we? Yes, YA is a self made business, but are we just a little envious of how well it works for them? What a windfall and gold mine for them and many yoga teachers believe that joining is required because of misinformation. Good for them, seekers of the truth being fooled by their own fear of not belonging. A little yoga irony reads like a Greek tragedy.

Lost souls who want to belong, yoga is not a path for followers who are led by fear and obvious deception. The yogic way of self reliance offers many benefits, but demands immediate effort to create a psychological attitude that provides one with a basis for direct experiences in consciousness. Often the hardest technique in our sacred discipline is to begin meditation. Only when your thoughts become still can you allow your deeper intelligence and intuition to guide you. If you teach yoga you have to learn to think for yourself and quit being one of the sheep led off to the slaughter at the follower conference.

Hello Forum, I looked up to see if the Yoga Alliance is accredited by the Better Business Bureau. Here's what I found: http://www.bbb.org/washington-dc-eastern-pa/business-reviews/not-elsewhere-classified/yoga-alliance-in-arlington-va-235980602/
Apparently the have a "F" Rating

Hi Yuri, Wow! When I asked the question about being accredited, I never expected all these replies but this F rating is unbelievable. As you might guess I'm totally shocked. This is worse than a political scandal! These people pretend to be a government agency and they have the worst possible rating from the BBB. I'm floored!
