Hello, I am new to the forum. I hope I am adding this question to the right place. I am a voice coach and I am always looking for ways to better serve my students. I recently stumbled across the idea of using yoga as a method to help singers specifically with breath. I am sure it would also be useful as a daily warm up practice before vocal exercises and before shows. I was wondering if anyone has heard of using yoga in vocal lessons and would you recommend this course to help me become certified in yoga instruction?

Thank you so much for any reply.

Pranayama techniques that extend the breath do help singers. Paul said the reason why pranayama was originally used was to extend the breath for priests who spoke ancient scriptures by singing hymns.

About the courses from Aura: They are the best. Can't say it any other way.

Absolutely correct - the pranayama techniques were practiced by the priets for reciting the vedas. Singers practice pranayama to this day. Also, I can say that Aura has the best distance learning course for yoga.

Extended breath equals a stronger voice and a powerful singer.

Basic Pranayama techniques such as ujjayi are very much like the breathing exercises I was taught as a teenager at both drama and singing classes. We used a breathing technique called Intercostal-diaphragmatic Breathing. As a reslut of having learned this breathing technique at a young age, my breath control was much improved. When I started along my yogic path and came across Ujjayi Pranayama, it was easy for me to make the slight changes required from the breathing technique I had learn at drama and singing. There is no doubt in my mind that yoga breathing techniques (pranayama), when done correctly and mindfully can greatly improve a singer's breath and voice control, as well as strengthening the muscles required for good voice projection.
