    Hi everyone,

I'm working on my lesson plan for my practical exam. I was going to incorporate the Sphinx Pose and was wondering if there were any modifications for someone with high blood pressure. This is also going to be my first time teaching, so I'm definitely trying to fight off the nerves :) Any suggestions? Thanks so much!

    Namaskar Criostiona,

There is no need for a high blood pressure modification (HBP) for Sphinx. HBP modifications come into play when the head is below the heart or on severe twists. For your practical exam, give a HBP and prenatal warning at the beginning of your class. Visit the video resources at: http://www.yoga-teacher-training.org/category/videos/ and watch the video "Yoga Student Precautions." You might also want to watch the lectures about Yoga teacher issues within the video resources area.

Hello...also reading about blood pressure and learning more about what it is will expand on your knowledge. I think that will help you understand why certain poses may not be ideal. Paul has great resources online about blood pressure as mentioned above. As far as being nervous and lesson plan...I know how that feels and I would recommend that you film your exam more than once before passing it in. I didn't do that and although it came out fine, I could see areas I would have tweaked a bit. The practical exam is a great learning experience. I ran through my plan many times alone as a personal practice which helped when I went to teach it. you will do fine! The weirdest thing is finding your own voice and leading a class instead of being the follower. The more you do it the teacher in you will develop and come out! good luck! Kerry
