There are many things that make a good yoga school, but there are also a number of things that can make a great yoga studio, and all instructors should strive to accomplish some of these to increase the success of their studio. Some of the most important things to consider are the instructors in the studio and how students respond to them, ensuring that the atmosphere of a studio is welcoming, and offering a variety of session types that will please many students. Even the smallest things can make a good studio great.
Nothing impacts the students of a yoga class more than the teacher does. The energy that the instructor projects out into the class will stimulate a good atmosphere and creates a positive response in the students. Students have been shown to perform better when they are relaxed, and the energy from the teacher is largely responsible for creating an air of relaxation among the group. This means that instructors must come to class in a calm state. Bringing outside stresses into the studio will only hurt the students in the class.
A popular yoga studio has instructors who are readily available to their students. Arriving at least an hour before class is scheduled to begin is a great way for yoga teachers to accomplish this. This allows students to come early to stretch or mentally prepare, and it also opens up a channel of communication between the student and teacher that can create a nurturing bond.
A knowledgeable teacher is a valuable one, and great yoga studios are those with instructors who have remained students throughout their career. The amount of continuing education that a yoga instructor does directly influences their worth as a teacher. Understanding a variety of yoga types allows the students to grow in the yogic lifestyle, and the best benefit for students of yoga classes is the increased health benefits associated with the lifestyle changes that accompany yoga.
Finally, and though it may seem trivial and unimportant, great yoga studios have calming and attractive appearances. The color scheme of a studio will affect the way students view it. If vibrant and clashing colors are chosen, they will create a tense atmosphere; soothing colors are ideal. Music selections should be soft and instrumental. Energetic music may be ideal for exercise classes, but it causes stress in an otherwise relaxing yoga class. Location can also be a factor, although any great studio can overcome even the poorest location.

A good studio is a place that makes you feel like you belong and you are welcome. It's a tricky balance for a studio to be a learning center and a home away from home. Some places do it quite well. With that being said, some students are studio hoppers with no intention of staying in one place. You have to do your best to have a nice studio, but don't take hoppers personally. They hop in and out of every studio and some are Groupon hoppers.

A good studio is full of students who are attracted to the culture inside. For example: one group of students goes to classes that practice mantras, pranayama and meditation. Another group goes for the workout in a hot room. Both groups have different needs, but it is possible to have these attend the same school at different times and in different classes. A school can have many different types of people, if student's needs are met.
