Namaskar JB,
Your heart is in the right place. You want to do seva for your community. This is good karma yoga and insurance that you have the edge on going to heaven. Now let's be honest. Some people will take advantage of the donation concept. Some of those who won't give are the richest students you have. Some poor students will pay for them. you could say they are also insuring their karmic path.
Here's my take: If you want to teach yoga for free - have a free yoga night for everyone. If you want to charge make sure everyone pays the same thing. Paulji once told a story about working for tips at a naval commissary and taking groceries the the cars of navy housewives and sailors. He said, "The poorest and lowest ranked people gave him the largest tips.
Life isn't fair, but make them all pay the same amount. Contribute seva and kindness to the poor. You can still be kind to the rich, but don't give them free yoga classes. Not all the rich are the same, so I don't mean to stereotype but don't giver misers a break.
Shanti,
Priyah
