Hi Zazen,
What you say happens to a lot of people. It is hard to change a programmed diet that we grew up with, but the change for a yoga practitioner quite is gradual. I have travelled throughout the Pacific and there is a lot of BBQ. This diet is somewhat similar in the Western and Southern US, Australia, and the Caribean. It is very difficult to suddenly change to a vegetarian, if we have a strong urge for BBQ. As a result of yoga practice, there seems to be a newly developed awareness about our food, posture, and breathing, even when we are not practicing yoga. Yoga has a profound effect on our personalites. As Paul would say: "Being present for practice throughout the day." What you are doing is wonderful, because people will learn alternative eating choices from you. It is very possible to make vegetarian dishes right off the BBQ. Many vegetables taste great grilled on low heat, without a flame.
Peace,
Yogi
