Dear Lolarama,
I understand your point. It seems they don't appreciate Yoga as you do. You may feel they don't really want to learn Yoga. This is a group of students that only wants to socialize and learn the physical aspects of Yoga practice. For some of us, it is a strain to teach a fitness Yoga style class. It seems as if we are giving a slice of the pie instead of the whole pie.
No worries! If you don't mind, give them the piece of pie they are asking for; and see what develops. Sometimes teaching groups of students in religious centers can be an interesting experience. Their minds may open as the practice continues. On the other hand, if you cannot accept them as they are, you may be best to stop teaching Yoga to this group.
Hope this helps.
OM Shanti,
Paul
