Thank you for that post. I recognize the author from Yoga Journal, but had not seen her comments about becoming a registered Yoga teacher. This is a "gray area," and only time will tell what result the Yoga Alliance will have on Yoga or teaching Yoga. The fact is getting registered doesn't require direct contact with the Alliance. They are a virtual organization with no government authority that wants to control yoga teacher training. In other words, it is too soon to state an opinion for or against joining the Yoga Alliance. Many have joined and many more have not.
Some organizations such as White Lotus do not endorse them, but Paul has joined the Yoga Alliance, so there must have been some deep thought before making this decision. With that said, we should take into consideration the concept of credentials in Yoga. Some of us work with the medical community and having an RYT now or in the near future could help.
