Namaskar Vanessa,
You bring up a very interesting point. Many people in the former Soviet Republics and East Block countries practiced yoga in secret. It was kept hidden in yoga books or drawings and shared only in small family groups.
Anyone practicing, teaching, or talking about Yoga could be sent to a work camp or worse. If you had a nice book with pictures, it was a treasure, and we didn't entirely understand the words because the books were not usually written in our languages. We had no formal yoga instructor certification courses.
How much can you learn from one Yoga book? Quite a bit, if you read a book 10 times and refer to it over and over again. It may seem primitive, but you would not skim through the only yoga book in your home.
With regard to this online yoga learning center: This is a vast treasure we could not have imagined. People can learn so much on the forums, blogs, and newsletters. Nothing is kept a secret. It feels like I am living a dream.
For those of you who have lived in democracy all of your lives - please don't take it lightly. The alternative is a form of slavery and control of your every move.
Om Shanti My Friend
