Your conclusions are correct - knowledge of the healing side of martial arts is missing in many schools. Some martial arts instructors didn't learn them at all or have no interest.
The hard style schools with older teachers sometimes cover healing aspects. Kung Fu schools also teach more of the internal arts. Lucky for the younger kids that Yoga classes are working their way into dojos and dojangs across the country.
Anyway, at least Yoga will help us preserve our bones well into old age.
