Namaskar Tomako,

Homa is a fire ritual prayer to overcome obstacles from my understanding. Mantra's are repeated sounds performed during homa or used during chants or meditation.

I won't say am new to these practices but only recently I started to really take interest in the meanings of the fire rituals. Very recently my yoga teacher here introduced me to Dattatreya Siva Baba's teaching -https://www.sivababa.org/ or http://www.astroved.com for more details. Here I used to go for their meditation activity in Singapore & sometimes in my hometown Johor Bahru, Malaysia. My personal encounter with Siva Baba was in the mth of August in Singapore and i would be meeting him again next week in Tangkak, Malaysia. His book which was recently launched this year "Life Changing Sounds - Tools from the other side", it gives the meaning of mantras and their purposes. I found it very useful for simple understanding.

Here I was adviced, that both my hubby and me have to perform Santhana Gopalakrishnan Homa for a save delivery of the baby & removal of some ancestral blockages. (they do take our birth charts readings and the date is than adviced for the prayer date) It is deffinately better to be present at the site of ritual when performing this homa, but unfortunately in my condition travelling to India is not advisable & also it would be uncomfortable for the long hours so the priest in India ds it and we observe that day.

From the website above I learned, there are various homa (fire rituals) for different purposes :-

Sudarsana Homa for removal of all enemies and avoiding accidents and overcome health afflictions like chronical diseases.Scriptures state that performing the Sudarsana homa could alleviate the sufferings of this nature. Performance of this homa also stops the danger or perils which may possibly occur in future. This homa is generally performed to accomplish any task successfully and also for prosperity. Other benefits include removal of negative energies, healing of the body and mind. This is a very powerful homa and a corporation aspiring for overall growth and success can opt for this homa.

Kukuta Homa

The Kukuta(Rooster) homa is a very powerful fire ritual done to invoke one of Lord Muruga's powerful vehicles, the Rooster. Muruga's divine rooster has the ability to destroy negativity and ward off evil. It is a less common known homa in India, but extremely powerful in nature and should only be done by qualified brahmin priests

Prathyangara Devi Homa - For Destruction Of Any Negative Forces (Disease, Misfortune, Obstacles, Rivalry...)

This were some of the homas mentioned on the net.

As at home, i do chant the Gayathri mantra and few more mantras for various purposes.

I am quite new at this, but so far i feel at peace with myself and my hubby too feels better by practicing the meditation & chant.

I hope my sharing of knowledge helps but the best would be researching into the website with the experts.

Peace Shanthi
