Hatha Yoga is an ancient science of healing. Every yoga teacher training course should cover specific yoga techniques to relieve pains that result from menses. During menstruation, specific asana and pranayama have a positive effect on the well being of female students. Yoga is an alternative treatment for reducing pain, agony and stress.
Several yoga techniques are said to relieve menstrual pain. This pain relief could help the body and mind adjust to stress, anxiety and depressive disorder causing you to feel peaceful and calm, and also empowering you to cope with pain.
A few Yoga techniques that are very helpful in coping with monthly pains are: Kapalabhati, Sukhasana (Easy Pose), Matsyasana (Fish Pose), Pavanamuktasana (Wind Relieving Pose), Bidalasana (Cat Pose), Anuloma Viloma (Alternate Nostril Breathing), Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose), Dhanurasana (Bow Pose), and Shavasana or the Corpse Pose. The above mentioned yoga techniques are said to relieve pain due to menses.
The effectiveness of yoga techniques may vary among women. During menstruation yoga helps women overcome pain. Inversions and twists should not be practiced.
