Not only is yoga safer than most exercises for seniors, it is an extremely beneficial way for them to regain physical and mental fitness, because is adds proper breathing, and calming techniques like meditation, to the physical aspects.
Obviously, they have to find a class that is appropriate for them. One of the biggest stumbling blocks is the fact that seniors can have difficulties getting up and down off the floor. Chair yoga and restorative classes are especially appropriate.
The benefits often happen within weeks if not days and can include less anxiety, lower blood pressure, increased flexibility and improved balance to name just a few we've seen in our chair yoga students.
