Namaskar,
Well, I wasn't prepared to read about a kinder and gentler Gator. That's Okay because you stated the truth. Government intervention in western laws call for state and religion to be separate. This has caused us to divide our consciousness. It might be seen as un-spiritual, but the system has worked. We may have our differences, but we don't fight over religion and it is common to have many friends who are of different religions. Most would say:
This isn't the way it is everywhere, so be glad for what you have. Obviously, there are some religious fundamentalists would like to destroy all of the western democracies because we are not all from one true religion of their choosing.
Bhakti is not popular in the west because most teachers have divided Yoga from spiritual enlightenment in their classes. Religious leaders have provoked too many conflicts over thousands of years. If you want to practice Bhakti, go to your favorite religious center. They might not call it Bhakti Yoga, but it is still devotion to God.
