Forgive me for not knowing the answer to this. I'm looking into doing a teacher training course but I would like to know, after certification, if I want to maybe teach at a local fitness studio (small business), I would need insurance...but would I also need a business license? I don't think I want to start my own studio (a decision like that would be further down the road anyway) but just teaching in a local dance studio, would that require a business license or do I just need insurance?? Is there a preferred insurance out there for yoga teachers? I'm new to all of this

thanks!

Hi April,

You should get liability insurance. Most people are happy with Yoga Journal's insurance broker service, which is through the Philadelphia Insurance Companies. https://www.yogajournal.com/benefitsplus/

About a license: I'm sure if you call your town or city hall, they will have an answer. Depending on where you live, the city or town may or may not regulate people who are independent contractors.

Namaste,

Marie

Here's another one: https://www.nacams.org/yoga

If you ask for the Aura graduate discount, they'll give you $10 off, which brings it down to $149 for a year.
