Namaskar Lea,
You make good points about safety for elders in chair yoga classes. The certification programs for chair yoga instructors revolve around safety issues. My thought is a hatha yoga teacher without the knowledge of working with elders needs to take courses that specialize in this field. For instance: many elders have high blood pressure and / or heart disease. This creates situations where techniques are modified and a chair yoga teacher should know how to modify any asana.
This takes specialized training and the willingness to learn how to help elders learn yoga techniques. It takes a deep caring personality. There needs to be a compassionate feeling toward students for a class to be a success.
