Hi James,
Not sure there is a holiday quite like Yoga Day in India. All holidays in India have deep traditional roots and to create one for self-promotion wouldn't go over well especially since suppression of Ego is part of yoga practice. Even political leaders don't create a holiday for themselves, unless they are dictators, which tells quite a hidden story in regard to a group who creates a holiday to tell the world how important they are!
There is a beautiful holiday coming up on March 1, 2010. "Holi," (the festival of colors) which is sometimes named Holaka or Phagwa. This is an annual festival celebrated on the day after the full moon in the month of Phalguna (early March). Holi celebrates spring, legends, and events within Hindu mythology. Holi is also a festival celebrating the arrival of spring.
Shanti
