Namaskar,

Many good points have been made here. Some of the difficulty of going to the floor is based upon the use of furniture over a lifetime. Once a yoga student is beyond 90 years of age the stride shortens. For some it happens much sooner. It is exceptional when it dsn't happen.

If you become stiff, live in a culture with high furniture, and your stride shortens you will have difficulty practicing on the floor. If you are able to get to the floor safely don't stop doing it. The Chair Yoga is good but you should not give up on safe challenges. This is a matter of flexibility, strength and safety. We must find a balance for all of these.
