From my experience I don't know if I would completely agree with this. Our studio is part of a heath club and interestingly enough it is the "Gentle Yoga" class that has ended up with the largest attendence. Typically, we are getting 2 to 3 times the number of students attending Gentle Yoga as compared to our Power Yoga and Flow Yoga classes. In fact, we just revised our class schedule to offer a Gentle Yoga class every day to accommodate the number of students we get.
In addition to older students (age 60 and above), we also have a number of young people who attend. The younger folks are often using the Gentle Yoga class as a "stretch and cool-down" regime following more intensive group exercise classes (ex. step aerobics) or weight training.
Namaste,
-Don
