The Yoga Sutras – An Introduction

Patanjali's Yoga Sutras have been translated from the original Sanskrit Devanagari Script, to English, many times - and in many ways. The Yoga Sutras, themselves, are precisely organized in padas. The best cross-reference to the term "pada" is chapter. Below is a brief overview of the four chapters of Patanjali's Yoga Sutras.

Yoga and the Awakening of Consciousness

Unfortunately, there is still too much mystery regarding the higher forms of Yoga (Raja, Karma, Bhakti, and Jnana). All four of these forms of Yoga will help us awaken our consciousness. However, we can take a fresh view of the concept. Awakening was classically referred to as “unfolding.”

NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION (SANKALAPA)

Resolution means: will, purpose, determination, or a resolve to do something. The Sankalpa, or resolution, which we make during the New Year period, generally reflects our state of mind, our aspirations, and ambitions. The choice of the kind of Sankalpa we make is very important and should always aim to bring out the best within us. Find a Sankalpa, which is short and sweet, only a few words. It need not be influenced by words alone.

VEDIC STUDY

The Vedas signify divine knowledge. In the Vedic traditions, knowledge is of two types viz: direct or indirect. Direct knowledge comes through the senses, mind, and objects, while indirect knowledge comes from within, which we call intuitive knowledge. Originally, the Vedic hymns were divinely inspired by Lord Brahma (the soul of the universe), who revealed them to the ‘Rishis’ (sages), in a higher state of consciousness, and hence known as ‘Shrutis’ (what was heard). Rishis then revealed it to their disciples, Gurus.

Super Energies Gayatri, Savitri and Kundalini

The description of Kundalini commences with the discussion of the spiritual philosophy of Gayatri Super Prajna. In reality Gayatri devotion is an application of imbibing of righteousness and sensitivity. In that soul purification is given great importance and via meditation/concentration while manifesting devotion divine consciousness is attracted closer or else one entwines with it. It is the same act whether you light a stick with a match stick or add a stick to blazing fire.

Teaching Yoga and Practicing Kshama

How can a Yoga practitioner learn to practice kshama? One can learn about the concept of kshama, but to practice it daily is a voluntary task on the Yogic path. One point to remember is that forgiveness “starts at home.” To begin, you must accept yourself, family members, friends, and co-workers for being human.

The Seven Chakra System of Hatha Yoga

There is much more to Hatha Yoga than asana practice. Every competent Yoga teacher training graduate knows about the major, minor, and lesser Chakras. Every Yoga certification course worth its weight teaches graduates about the subtle body of Yoga. Ayurveda, and Chinese medicine.

Teaching Yoga Classes – Showing Gratitude

How many ways can Yoga affect health? If you look at any person, Yoga can change mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual health - for the best. Let’s look at how gratitude can create good health. Have you ever met someone who does not appreciate what they have?

The Best Yoga Teacher is Inside You

Where can we find the best Yoga teacher? Who is the most mystical of Gurus? If I climb one more mountain, will the answers of my purpose in life be revealed when I get to the other side? These are questions each seeker (sadhaka) wants answered.

Online Yoga Teacher Internet Community

Evidence, in the form of benefits experienced by long-term practitioners, can be seen in the current economic crisis. Instead of resorting to alcoholism and drugs, a large portion of the public has opted to practice Yoga in classes with like-minded people.
